Google Talk adds video and talks in languages (from GMail too)
In case you’re not following fresh news for every single piece of software, you should be interested in what’s new in Google Talk (a.k.a. GTalk).
Yesterday, Google has unveiled a great new feature - video chat. No more a plugin is needed for video with your GTalk voice session (if you knew about the existence of such plugins at all). It has yet to be seen how Skype/EBay will cope with Google breathing down its neck.
The other feature I’d like to mention here is not new, but it’s new for me and being useful, I’d like to share it. It’s - translation bots. As usual, you can add your contact’s email to your GTalk contact list. In this case, your contact is does not have a heartbeat, rather it’s a translation software robot (a.k.a. translation bot) which listens in source language and translates what you write to the bot into the destination language.
Translation bot emails are in format <from language>2<to language>@bot.talk.google.com. For example, you can have your English messages translated into Spanish by sending them to en2es@bot.talk.google.com. Google has provided an expanding list of languages combinations.
Useful thing is that you can add and use these translation bots from your chat window inside GMail too.
Have fun!
