This is how Michael Phelps edged Milorad Čavić in 100m butterfly in Beijing 2008 Olympics finals.
Even though Čavić was leading the heat for almost the entire race, with a world record split time at the middle of the race, at the very end Phelps instinctively chose to make a half-stroke.
Amazing!
It appears, however, that Čavić doing the exact opposite thing, gliding and gliding for too long, did touch the wall first but didn’t touch it hard enough.
You be the judge. Anyway, a great moment for Serbian swimming (first Serbian medal) and even greater for the history of swimming and Olympic sport as Phelps equaled Mark Spitz’s record with 7 Olympics golds. With a 4*100 medley relay race tomorrow, he’s almost sure to break the Mark Spitz’s best ever record of 7 golds and to equal 7 world records.
