The thing I hate the most about advertising is that it attracts all the bright, creative and ambitious young people, leaving us mainly with the slow and self-obsessed to become our artists. Modern art is a disaster area. Never in the field of human history has so much been used by so many to say so little.

Banksy, quoted from the ADbusters magazine

If you agree, make sure you check out the amazing “Exit Through the Gift Shop” graffiti documentary that challenges the perception of modern art, originality and creativity, in ways you haven’t seen before.

Rhonda - 3D sketching

Rhonda is the new sketching tools that will finally allow us to do it as it was always meant to be - in three dee! :-) The author is Amit Pitaru who has been working on this for quite a while (more than you have imagined, but not for more reasons like technical complexity).

In the first two minutes of the video you can see Amit’s collaborator James Peterson’s creating a 3D sculpture that was done in - 2003! The rest of the video contains some of his works from 2004 and 2005. In case you wondered, music in the video is Neil Young’s “Out On The Weekend”. From product point-of-view the project has been dormant since, while it has been capturing far too little eye balls in galleries, museums, festivals and conferences.

In a nice turn of events, two well-known software art engineers (according to Google I coined a new term) have joined the project - Zach Liebermann (of OpenFrameworks, who also took part in Toyota iQ Font campaign I wrote about) and Zack Gage (of synthPond, the spacial sequencer).

Want to be in the know when Rhonda will be out? Follow rhondaforever on Twitter.

Do you want to beta test this baby? Leave your name and email on Rhonda website.

Watch and listen to this intro packing real-time rendered animation filled with fractals and music into (hold your pants) - 1kB! Yes, that’s 1024 bytes! That’s less memory that any computer you ever owned had inside.

This is just one of intros showcased this year at one of the most popular demoscene parties - Breakpoint organized in Germany.

Demo group that made this wonder is called TBC while the intro is called Untraceable

I’m amazed every time I see anything remotely advanced like this fitting in anything below 64kB… this is simply beyond my comprehension. Hm… I wonder if these guys ever get laid while trying to cram yet more fractals, fps and animation.

Note to self: Make your work a work of art

Book Cover An inspiring paragraph from a book I’m reading - “Talent (Tom Peters Essentials)” by Tom Peters of course. Supporting his idea of aiming for the top quality and grand vision, Tom quotes the book “The Art of Business: Make All your Work a Work of Art” from Stan Davis and Steve McIntosh. Authors argue tjat people must adopt these “four elements” of new business thinking:

See yourself as an artist.

See your work as a work of art.

See your customers as an audience.

See your competition as teachers.

I’d liken “business as art” approach to a female principle contrasted to male principle as epitomized by “art of war” philosophy (most prominently Sun Tzu).
