Emotiv SDK available for $500

Emotiv, a company that makes a neuroheadset (mind control baby!), has released Emotiv SDK for developers and researchers for the price of $500. As far as I can tell, SDK will be shipped with a game by Demiurge Studios built on Unreal engine. Sounds like something worth anticipating.

This is an early commercial and serious contender in the field of brain-computer interfaces based on electroencephalography (EEG) technology. INo, you don’t need to shave your head.

Google App Engine for Java available - Campfire One: App Engine Redux (pt. 1)

Google App Engine availability for Java is positively great news for Java developers everywhere. This move will not only make Java a more compelling platform but will also make it easier to develop and host web applications based on Java platform. Now you can create end-to-end Java applications where even client side can be implemented using GWT (Google Web Toolkit), i.e. without touching JavaScript and its cross-browser quirks.

Furthermore, with Google supporting Java in its own cloud I believe it is also good news for the future of Java platform in general. You probably know that Sun Microsystems may be acquired by some company (IBM or HP or… ?) that may decide to switch off some of the R&D within the Java platform which, again, may not be a bad thing considering Sun’s stance with OpenJDK (“openness”), OSGi (indecisiveness), JavaFX (closed source) etc.

Meet the masters of hype, Apple Inc.

This is how it should be done. This is how hype should be created. This is how you get faithful followers.

First, it (called SDK) was announced by Steve Jobs for February 2008. Ever since, it has been widely and wildly anticipated by religious hordes of Appleists.

Usually, Feburary has 29 days in a leap year. Year 2008 will be special because it will have 35 days because of the “Apple event confirmed for March 6th for the “iPhone software roadmap”. [via Engadget]

iPhone software roadmap

I can see fingerprints of Steve’s RDF (reality distortion field for the unitiated) all over this. Why call SDK n SDK when it can be a step in a “software roadmap” which I guess will be presented as a wonderful long-term opportunity for the Appleists to continue their habit, no addiction. What addiction? Apple products addiction and, now - finally, addiction to product derivatives or 3rd party products.

Dealers rejoice! :-)

I am happy because this increases competition in the mobile software market where I see a lot of fun coming in 2008.
