Here’s an article that explains why you should pay attention to how your URL looks as much as title, headlines, page copy and internal linking structure. It also points out the first research on the subject shows that short URLs attract 2.5x (i.e. 150% more!) of clicks than the long URLs.
Furthermore, the linked article explains why and how you should use malleable links if you CMS or blog system supports them. For example, you can assign a readable (and short) permalink to any of your Wordpress posts.
I know I’m not practicing (yet) what I preach on this Tumbleblog (mostly because I can’t). I hope to get more time on my hands in a not-so-distant future and start posting articles on my Wordpress blog.
Cheers!
